My Favourite Foodie Flicks

Food obsessions are rooted in basic survival instincts with the desire to satisfy carnal culinary cravings.  It’s no surprise that food themes have provided ample content for some brilliant cinema.  I thought it would be fun to share some of the food flicks that have impacted me with their wit, charm and seduction.  The reality is I never tire of great food related experiences and conversation.  The faves I have compiled are merely a taste and by no means a comprehensive list.   As I write and research, I continue to gathering more “must see” and “must see again” movies.  Sit back and enjoy the introductions I have provided for my top 5 culinary movie gems.

1. Ratatouille (2007) A rat with dreams of culinary grandeur hatches a plot to befriend a kitchen employee to live vicariously through, who works in a famed Parisian restaurant.

2. Chocolat (2000) A conservative French villages’ status quo is challenged when a mother and daughter arrive and set up a chocolate shop and introduce the pleasure of indulgence.

3. Julie and Julia (2009) We’re introduced to Julia Childs early beginnings in the culinary industry, intertwined with blogger Julie Powell task of preparing every dish from Child’s “Mastering the Art of French Cooking.”

4. Sideways (2004) Join a road trip through California wine country with two disheartened men approaching mid-life, just before one walks down the aisle.
